HOW TO STAY IN THAILAND LONG-TERM WITH THAI MARRIAGE VISA

Being a foreigner, you are required to obtain visa to stay in Thailand.

If you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for the Thai marriage visa as it is known is called a Non-Immigrant type O visa at Thai Embassy in your home country or consulate outside Thailand. The “O” stands for “Other reasons”, meaning that the reason to stay in Thailand is to support your wife or husband.

When you enter Thailand with this visa you can apply for an extension of stay at any Immigration office - meaning a one year visa.  You have to show the original copy of your marriage certificate, your Thai spouse’s ID card. If you get marriage certificate from abroad, you have to translated into Thai.

You also have to prove that you have no financial problems by showing of Thai bank account or income of at least 40,000 Baht per month. If the income is from abroad, you will need a letter from your embassy verifying it too.

You have 90 days to extend the 90 day stay to 1 year stay by presenting a proof of relationship with a Thai national (a marriage certificate) to the Thai Immigration.
